Richard Schultz vervoegde zich na zijn studies aan de Iowa Universiteit en het Illinois Instituut van technologie te Chicago, bij Knoll Associates in 1951 waar hij samenwerkte met Harry Bertoia. Naast zijn werk voor Knoll ontwierp hij een Office Systeem voor Stow/davis. Hij gaf ook les in designing aan het Philadelphia College of Art en had een expositie van zijn standbeeld in het Museum van Moderne Kunst te New York. Schultz zijn ontwerpen zijn tegenwoordig terug te vinden bij de fabrikanten B&B en Schultz design.
