tentoonstellingen voorjaar

No grandmasters of contemporary design without some shining examples. This spring the Design Museum Ghent and the ADAM Brussels Design Museum are organising inspirational exhibitions about Soviet design, the Belgian Designer of the Year and a design that was the result of youthful rebellion.

Unfold - L’Artisan Electronique (Ghent, until 4 March 2018)

Last year, the Antwerp design studio Unfold, founded in 2002 by fellow students Claire Warnier and Dries Verbruggen, was crowned Designer of the Year 2017. Three years earlier they had won the Henry Van de Velde Award for Young Talent. The duo was showered with international praise for l'Artisan Electronique, a 3D ceramic printer with a virtual potter's wheel. With this project they question the traditional roles of designer, manufacturer and consumer, and artisanal knowledge, technological production and digital trends. How do we want to shape the future?

L’Artisan Electronique continues to be the highlight at the Unfold exhibition in the Design Museum Ghent, up to and including Sunday 4 March. All info available here.

Peter Ghyczy, 50 years of functionalism (Brussels, until 11 March 2018)

Peter Ghyczy is a German national, was born in Hungary and lives in the Netherlands. In August 1968, he used a new plastic, polyurethane, to design his Garden Egg. Today, he considers the garden chair as a youthful rebellion. This did not prevent the Garden Egg, one of the first garden chairs that was weatherproof, from becoming an iconic Sixties design. The ADAM Brussels Design Museum explores the creative process, the work and oeuvre of Peter Ghyczy.

Peter Ghyzcy, 50 years of functionalism runs from Wednesday 7 February up to and including Sunday 11 March 2018 in the ADAM Brussels Design Museum. All info available here.

Soviet Design. Red Wealth (Brussels, until 21 May 2018)

The exhibition showcases various aspects of Soviet culture, including childhood and leisure time, visual communication and packaging designs, furniture and household products.

Soviet Design. Red Wealth can be visited up to and including Monday 21 May in the ADAM Brussels Design Museum. All info available here.
