The “Salone del Mobile Milano” is unmissable when it comes to seeing and experiencing the very best that domestic furnishing has to offer. So every year the Master Team descends to the wonderful Milan for a few days of team building, inspiration, information, interesting meetings and great Italian food.

This year was as overwhelming and inspiring as every year and the 4 days were too short to visit the 300.000 brands and the many events in the city center of Milan.

On our blog we present you a four-part series about our visit to Milan. In today’s post, you’ll find some of the most beautiful stands, the most striking trends noticed, and some fun extras.

Traditional, mother nature and marbles

As last year pastels were all over the place, now the tendency was more back to basic colors like dark blue, beige and brown. Some accents are made in brass, gold and old pink. Overall it looks like we want to go back to a more cosy and warm living area.

And very important is bringing in nature: striking present were plants, flower prints and different kinds of wood, often mixed in one presentation. Marble continues to rise, now with even a wider range of colors, even pink and baby blue.

Birthday celebrations

Although very inspiring, sometimes with a slight irritation we asked ourselves where or whether something new was to be found that went beyond the customary and all the usual variants on it.

It seems unlikely that it was simply the huge number of jubilees (Magis turned 40, B&B Italia 50, Walter Knoll and many others likewise had cause to celebrate) which persuaded many to glance backwards rather than look forward.

Cassina

Homage to Rietveld : The classic Cassina ‘Utrecht’ armchair upholstered in a collection of bespoke textiles created by artist Bertjan Pot.

Most beautiful stands

The most beautiful exhibition booth was Zanotta’s, creating a nice atmosphere with lots of green, perfect color combinations and great new products combined with design history.

The Edra booth is always a must-see… This year they went for a very commercial move with the new Essential sofa: more comfort, more style, more combinations and all for a lower budget.

In the city Casa Vitra was situated in a beautiful house, and one could not miss out on the special Paola Lenti location in an old convent. Every year the convent is specially decorated with plants, courtyards and pools, just for the occasion of the Salone del Mobile.

And fun extras

It was not all about furniture at Salone del Mobile this year, as we laid eyes on this Bugatti.

Hella Jongerius is the designer behind the color of sofas, chairs and cushions at Vitra. The Dutch designer also demonstrates taste in a whole range of nail varnishes, which visitors of “Casa Vitra” could try out.
