Extremis is known for its innovative outdoor furniture designs. Books have even been written about the names of their furniture pieces...

In 1994, the first piece of outdoor furniture by designer Dirk Wynants appeared on the market. The Gargantua is a round table with four height-adjustable seats. The new Belgian brand Extremis immediately placed itself on the design map. In 2014, it celebrated its twentieth anniversary, with the presentation of the Pantagruel.

The giant Gargantua and his son Pantagruel are the most famous creations of the French Renaissance author François Rabelais. In five books Rabelais describes the adventures of the father and son, who love nothing more than eating, drinking and obscene jokes.

Today, Gargantuan and Rabelaisian are synonyms for earthly pleasures; in his satirical story the author also criticises the Church and society. The two giants appear to be insatiable, not only with regard to their appetite but also in their quest for knowledge. Sumptuous meals are consistently accompanied by animated discussions.

It's no wonder that the two giants sprang to mind when Dirk Wynants was designing his iconic garden tables. Around the Extremis Gargantua and Pantagruel people can enjoy beautiful weather, delicious food and good conversation. Thanks to their robustness they can also be handed down to subsequent generations, along with some wonderful memories. They are perfect examples of the tools for togetherness and classics for the future that Extremis embodies.
