Master interior architect Isabelle has created two different seating areas in this house. They are perfect examples of these five easy tips, which are easily applied to your own seating area.

1 - Go for comfort and intimacy

The seating area in your home should be a space that is synonymous with relaxation. There is nothing more wonderful than retreating to a cosy and intimate cocoon. So make sure you choose comfortable seats, like the black leather Longa armchair by Label in this seating area. It is pretty clear that the people who live in this house love comfort: just look at the LC4 Chaise Longue in one of the other rooms, for example.

Intimacy is in the detail. An accessory with just the right character, a lamp that provides the perfect lighting or a rug with just the right pattern and colour combination makes a space truly comfy and snug. The Goose Eye Icon by Kasthall, made from 100% wool, is an excellent example.

2 - Don’t block the view

Does your seating area have an amazing view of your garden? Then make absolutely sure that your furniture does not get in the way! The Soft Dream sofa by Flexform has long arms and the Pilot Chairs by Knoll can swivel, so you won’t lose sight of your garden.

The delicate top and elegant legs of the DePadova SEN coffee tables also add more transparency. Their natural, rounded shapes also make everything a little less severe and hint subtly at the great outdoors.

3 - Bring the outdoors indoors

Accessories don’t just provide intimacy; they can also add a little fun to a room. The Birds by Architectmade and the walnut dog by Kay Bojesen, both new in the Master range, bring home and garden together in a playful way. The Thonet 1025 coffee table on which the dog is displayed is made of walnut too. And now we’ve mentioned dogs: everyone who lives here loves the beautiful carpets and rugs, including the family dog, Pebbles.

4 - Consider natural colours

Here is another tip for bringing your home and garden together: play with colours. The cognac leather of the soft Pilot Chairs combines perfectly with the autumn colours outside. And don’t the light-brown throw and the cushion by Hvid remind you of falling leaves? The sheepskin, Pebbles’ favourite spot, is by E15.

5 - Make those details count

It’s all about the detail, so make it count. The Soft Dream is not just wonderfully comfortable to sit on; its elegant base, upholstered with hide leather, also keeps the seating area uncluttered and airy. Even when you enter the room via the kitchen and get a glimpse of its slender leg that lightly supports the frame. And the shimmering, silver thread of the Greta Shimmer rug by Kasthall perfectly matches the chrome details, giving the room that ‘little extra touch’.
